Woof! An iPhone-controlled dog treat dispenser
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Hardware, Peripherals, Hacks, Odds and ends, Internet, iPhone, iPod touchWhile you're geeking out with your techie friends building battle bots or pumpkin cannons, why not give your dog a little love at the same time? TUAW reader Stephen Myers sent us a link about a fun little project he worked on. He wants to be able to check on his dog's well-being and reward the dog with treats from anywhere he can use his iPhone. Stephen found out about ioBridge, a company that develops electronic monitoring and control modules that connect to any Ethernet network and can be ...
iPhone-enabled dogcam and remote treat dispenser
Core77 —
This is one of the more amazing hacks I've seen all year: An iPhone-enabled dog webcam and remote dog treat dispenser.
Stephen Myers, a Ph. D student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida, rigged up a webcam so he could check in on his dog while he's in school. But that wasn't enough: Myers built a motorized dog treat dispenser out of a CD spindle case, cardboard scraps, random household junk and a servo motor, then hooked it up to the internet using an ioBridge "Smart Board." He can now hit a button on his iPhone to see his dog, then hit another button to dispense a dog treat.
The craziest part: ...
iPhone controlled dog treat dispenser
Hack a Day —
[Stephen Myers] has been toying around with some beta ioBridge hardware. He decided to build a remote control dog treat dispenser. ioBridge’s hardware is built specifically to make web enabling projects easy. The main controller board has four I/O channels that speak to addon modules. It has an ...
iPhone-controlled Dog Feeder
2dayBlog - Technology Journal, New Gadget everyday! —
Here’s the first iPhone owner using “an I/O module, a servo, an old CD spindle case, some cardboard and wood scraps, a large syringe plunger, and a webcam” to build this dog feeder.
Stephen found out about ioBridge, a company that develops electronic monitoring and control modules that connect to ... ...
iPhone-Controlled Dog Treat Dispenser
iPhone Hacks —
Stephen Meyers, a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida was able to put together a dog watching, treat giver with the ioBridge module, a servo smart board, and some random parts such as an old CD spindle case, cardboard scrap etc. He can control with his iPhone over the internet. The impressive part is it took Stephen less than one hour to complete his fun project and thanks to ioBridge's IO-204 Monitor and Control Module there was no need to run a home web server. The IO-204 module also takes care of the internet connectivity and lets you create user customizable widgets on the ioBridge website thus removing the need for complex ...
iBone: The iPhone controlled dog feeder
Macenstein —
This iPhone controlled dog feeder is pure genius. I am actually thinking of building something similar for my kids during the winter months so I do not have to physically interact with the little germ incubators.
I dub thee the “iBone”.
Ironically, my son’s name is Cooper…
Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Wouter for the tip!
Feed Your Dog With an iPhone
Wired: Epicenter —
Stephen Myers has a dog, an iPhone and not much time. As a University of Florida Ph. D student, he's rarely home. So he did what any engineer would do: he created a way to give his dog a treat remotely, through his iPhone. Okay, maybe he has too much time.
Myers posted a video (embedded above) of the gizmo in action and wrote up a how-to. He used a beta version of an ioBridge module, hardware that can connect to both the internet and the physical world.
Viewing a simple webpage on his iPhone, Myers can click a treat button to activate a spindle. ...
Engineer Creates iPhone Dog Treat Feeder
Gear Live —
Stephen Cooper, a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida, decided to take a CD spindle and an ioBridge, a smart board that requires very little skill and will set up an online interface page for you. Ninety minutes later he came up with a way to feed his pup Cooper ...
