iPhones selling like, err, hot iPhones
TG Daily - All News —
Cupertino (CA) - Apple's iPhone 3GS is hot stuff, but for all the wrong reasons, suggest reports. One French site claims that the iconic phones are getting so hot that they change color from cool white to singed brown. Other sites claim that the phone becomes too hot to use although the black handsets at least have the benefit that at least they get none more black, despite getting hot enough to burn users' ears. The faults seems to be caused by using the GPS features, suggests Wired , adding that we might be headed for yet another exploding battery scandal. Older 2G iPod ...

Apple has stated that the battery in the 3GS does boost times for certain things (like browsing the web on WiFi), but it also apparently is leading to some overheating. ...
iPhone Monitors Temperature: Might Save Overheating, Won’t Help Global Warming
jkOnTheRun —
... Although there was a recent picture of a white iPhone 3GS exhibiting what looked to be burned plastic on the back casing, I haven’t had any issues with my unit. I have the same one. I don’t doubt there are some handsets that run hotter than others; with massive production runs, there are bound to be a few bad handsets getting through the QC process. That number could be dozens or it could be thousands. I wonder how legitimate that picture was, though. ...
iPhone 3G S Now Comes In Brown [IPhone]
Consumerist —
... brown. Brown? Yes, brown. According to Apple 's knowledgebase, the problem stems from using resource-intensive programs for extended periods in direct sunlight and doesn't affect all phones. iPhone 3GS Too Hot Temperature?
Elliott C. Back —
After report surfaced that Apple’s new iPhone 3GS had problems with overheating, followup articles point to the batteries being the source of the problems:
Vronko said the iPhone 3GS’s heat problem is evidently tied to the battery, because the pictures of discolored white iPhones reveal the outline of the battery. He noted that although thousands of iPhone 3GS users probably own defective handsets, the risk of causing fire or explosion is low because the iPhone’s battery cell is extremely small.
I decided to do a small test ...
