Google to make its iPhone app voice enabled
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis — When it comes to mobile, Google is on the rage. Just yesterday we covered the search giant’s new iPhone-optimized search portal, and now we’re hearing they prepare to make their iPhone app voice enabled. This in turn would allow users to simply speak their query to the iPhone’s mouthpiece and get results within seconds. Apparently, Google’s voice algorithm is still in its infancy, hence The New York Times notes that the app can “return queries that appear as gibberish.” That’s NYT folks and they know something we don’t. As a matter of fact, they say Google will release the new iPhone app “as soon as Friday” through ...

Google to release speech-to-search iPhone app
CrunchGear — Voice recognition has always seemed like the holy grail of technology and now Google is throwing their skills into the technology. Starting sometime today, iPhone users can download a free app that allows them to speak a destination or question and within seconds, receive an answer. The app works by recording your voice, uploading it to a Google Server via the data connection, crunching the data, and then returning the results. It doesn’t deliever perfect results just yet, but as the app matures and learns everyones searching techniques, eventually it will creep closer to perfection.  Kind of scary if you think about it. Google now reads ...

Google Search now does speech recognition on iPhone
9 to 5 Mac - Apple Intelligence — Google is really stepping up to the plate with their iPhone apps.  The New York Times is reporting that Google's updated search app will allow voice search based on location.  So things like "where is the nearest Starbucks" can be asked and answeres will be given via the Maps application.  Amazingly cool if it works as promised.  It is hard not to be impressed by Google sometimes.  From the Times: The service can be used to get restaurant recommendations and driving directions, look up contacts in the iPhone’s address book or just settle arguments in bars. The query “What is the best pizza restaurant ...

Google releasing speak-to-search iPhone app
Boing Boing Gadgets — ... search results just by speaking into the mike. It simply sucks up your voic e, uploads it to a Google server and returns the results, with promises that the results will get better over time as Google gets exposed to a larger variety of stutters, mumbles and lisps. Sounds great: I'd definitely rather speak into my iPhone than use the onscreen keyboard. But why is Google premiering stuff like this on the iPhone? It just makes them seem sloppily uncommitted to Android. New York Times article

Voice Recognition Web Searching For The iPhone
GEARFUSE — [image] Typing, “hot horny girls go wild in a jacuzzi,” can be difficult on an iPhone; even with that QWERTY keyboard . By Friday, Apple hopes to remedy this problem by releasing Google’s new voice recognition application in the iTunes store . Once you have the app, you can forget about typing. Just say out loud, “Where can I find the Chicks With Dicks Vol. 2 DVD in New York City?” and the sound will be converted to a digital file to be sent through Google’s servers. This is when the magic happens. When the software tries to determine the words spoken and pass them along to the Google search engine. It won’t be long until you have every smutty video store’s location in New York. ...
