News: Mix: X-Plane, Soaripod, Kodak Gallery, SimCity
iLounge | All Things iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond —
Laminar Research, developers of Best iPhone/iPod touch App of the Year, X-Plane 9 , has released X-Plane Helicopter and X-Plane Airliner for the iPhone and iPod touch. X-Plane Helicopter and Airliner use the same FAA-Certified flight-model used in X-Plane for the desktop and the prior X-Plane 9 for the iPhone, providing users with realistic helicopter and commercial airliner flight simulation. Helicopter offers a number of different helicopters to fly, including the Robinson R-22, the Bell-206, the BlackHawk, and the Sea King, and uses the Grand Canyon as the in-flight area, providing varied, visually-interesting terrain in which to fly. ...

SimCity for the iPhone is here — but there are some bugs
VentureBeat —
The wait is over — SimCity, EA’s hit city-building franchise, has been released for the iPhone and iPod touch. Since for many of you, that’s all you need to hear, I’ll just say that it’s $9.99 and you can download it here. But be warned, there are some bugs.
For those interested in how the game runs and plays, I’ll continue. First of all, the use of the iPhone’s touchscreen for building city zones is brilliant. You simply drag your finger over the area you wish to build on and then hit the check mark to confirm it. You can also scroll around your map when not building by simply using your finger, and ...
Finally, SimCity for iPhone
iPhone Buzz —
Finally, Electronic Arts has released a version of its famous SimCity game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Nicely described by a site as "the grandfather of them all", SimCity now joins other EA-released games such as Spore, Scrabble, Monopoly and Tetris. The game is now available for $9.99 through the App Store.
SimCity is an open-ended city-building computer and console video game series, created by developer Will Wright. It is published by Maxis (now a division of Electronic Arts) and originally released for the Mac and Amiga in 1989.
And, if you're new to the SimCity ...

SimCity Arrives in the Apple App Store! Can I Get a High Five?
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
Yes, Yes, YES! When it comes to the SimCity family of games, I’m pretty much the biggest geek there is. As a youngster I used to huddle over my SNES and create communities in what was (at the time) the best city building simulation available. Come to think of it, I think I may owe the giant ‘C’ shape that my spine seems to have formed to the hours and hours playing this game. Either that or it’s the hours spent in front of my computer each day.
To say the game is ‘legendary’ as Jonathan Skillings at CNet has reported is absolutely dead on. An all-out classic, SimCity for the iPhone and iPod Touch is ...
SimCity For iPhone Falls Short, Rolando Rocks (AAPL)
Silicon Alley Insider —
... out. Two new, highly anticipated games are now available via iTunes: SimCity, an iPhone edition of the classic computer game, and Rolando, an iPhone-exclusive game written from scratch.
They're both $10, but right now, only one of them is worth it: Rolando, which is super fun and does an excellent job showing off the iPhone's unique gaming features. SimCity, meanwhile, reminds us of some of the phone's limitations -- we probably wouldn't buy it a second time.

Review: SimCity for the iPhone
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Gaming, iPhone, iPod touch Welcome to my fledgling city of Saillune.
SimCity 3000 was the first computer game I ever bought for myself. Up until that point, I was happy with "borrowing" the games that my brothers bought and playing those. But, after a high school friend showed me SimCity 3000, I ...
SimCity for iPhone and iPod Touch Released
D' Technology Weblog —
The wait is over — SimCity, EA’s hit city-building franchise, has been released for the iPhone and iPod touch. Since for many of you, that’s all you need to hear, I’ll just say that it’s $9.99 and you can download it here. But be warned, there are some bugs. The game has many of the SimCity staples you’d expect. You can customize your terrain before you start a city (though it’s limited to using the water and tree sliders, you can’t actually use tools to place water wherever you want). You can see financial charts and get advisor opinions on what you should do next. There are city ordinances you ...

SimCity: Create a Bustling Metropolis on Your iPhone [TheAppleBlog]
GigaOM Network —
EA dropped SimCity ($9.99) for the iPhone recently, and I actually almost missed it. I was still buzzing over Hero of Sparta and I Love Katamari, both of which are also recent releases.
Of course, I had to put everything on hold and take a crack at SimCity, since the PC versions of the game had occupied so many of my youthful hours. Plus, I was pleased with Spore Origins, so EA had already begun to earn my trust on the iPhone platform. I really hoped they wouldn’t throw that relationship out the door with as precious a title as SimCity. (more…) ...

My ten favorite iPhone games of 2008
VentureBeat —
Yesterday, I wrote up my 10 favorite iPhone apps of 2008 with a note that I wasn’t including any games on the list because there were far too many good ones and they should probably get their own list. Today, I bring you that list.
This was a tough one to narrow down to 10, I have nearly 40 games that I keep on my iPhone right now, and I wouldn’t keep anything on there that I wouldn’t enjoy playing. Just as with yesterday’s list, it’s important to note that these are my 10 favorite games on the iPhone and not necessarily what I think are the 10 best, because that is something that is simply too hard to rate ...
SimCity: A week later
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Gaming, iPhone, iPod touchLast week, Electronic Arts finally released SimCity for the iPhone. Like Rolando, which came a day later, SimCity was an eagerly anticipated game with a lot of high expectations. On the surface, it looks fantastic. The graphic capabilities really shows off what the capacity of the iPhone is capable of and it's very addicting. One reader comment stated that our initial review posted wasn't really a full-on review, and that it only scraped the surface. In a way, he was correct. A game like SimCity is something that you play over time on the iPhone and actually can dedicate a lot of ...
What Apple can teach Nintendo and Sony
Macworld —
by Darren Gladstone , PC World Editor’s Note: The following is reprinted from the Casual Friday blog at PCWorld.com . Nintendo, Sony: Let’s talk for a sec—just you and me. Look, guys, over the past couple of years, you’ve had a great run. Nintendo, your DS has tons of games, a wide variety of unique stuff that’s a blast to play. Sony, your PSP is a gadget-lover’s gaming tool, with everything from Skype to Internet-radio support (oh, yeah, and you have some cool games, as well). But unless you both do something in 2009, the iPhone and iPod Touch will soon become the top dogs in handheld gaming. Apple, the same folks who have pretty much ...
