"The user interface is everything you’d expect from an iPhone app, and it integrates with your Address Book for super low cost calls to friends, family and colleagues abroad," says Skype's Peter Parkes. "It also integrates with the Camera Roll and your photo albums so you can select a profile picture you love."
The app is free of course. Skype offers plenty more information about it, and provides screenshots here, and at the Apple App Store. ...

jkOnTheRun —
... It’s been all over the web today that Skype has been officially released for the iPhone. It would be remiss of us to neglect covering such important mobile tech news and what better way to cover it than to show it in action. In this video I call Kevin who is goofing off hard at work in Las Vegas in preparation for the CTIA show tomorrow. In the video you’ll see and hear first-hand how clear the calls are using Skype on the iPhone and also find out what Kevin is doing out on the Strip at 4:30 in the morning. ...
Skype iPhone App Downloaded One Million Times In First Two Days
TechCrunch —
We knew it’d be a hit, but that much of a hit? The official Skype iPhone application, announced earlier this week, hit the iTunes Store last Tuesday and since then it’s seen an astonishing 1 million of downloads to the popular Apple devices, which is nothing short of amazing.
In the blog post announcing the milestone, which translates to approximately 6 downloads per second, Peter Parkes says he’s “confident that it’s one of the fastest-downloaded iPhone apps ever”, which means they’re not really ...
Skype iPhone App Downloaded 1 Million Times… and Counting.
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
... tidbit about that crazy number is that if you work out the numbers of downloads vs. time, that works out to approximately 6 downloads per second (thanks Robin!).
It would be neat to know if Skype reached the 1 million app download mark faster than any other app… I’d be inclined to think they have, but unfortunately I don’t seem to have those numbers in front of me at the moment. Perhaps Apple could be kind enough to let us know?

Skype for iPhone "blocked" in Germany, but not really
Infinite Loop —
Deutsche Telekom, parent company to T-Mobile, has announced that it plans to block access to Skype for iPhone (read our review of it here) in Germany. The reasoning ultimately comes down to subscribers' contractual obligations in Germany, though the company offers up murky reasons to support its decision, saying that Skype for iPhone will put an undue burden on T-Mobile's cellular network as well as WiFi hotspots.
All mobile operators in Germany (as well as France) bar users from using any VoIP services on their devices, meaning ...

Skype 1.1 for iPhone Released- SMS but Don’t Push
jkOnTheRun —
The Skype people are busy, as they have released version 1.1 for the iPhone in addition to the WinMo version we covered earlier. This new version adds the ability to check Skype voice mail and to send SMS messages, but it lacks a highly desirable feature: push notification.
Push notification is the feature enabled in 3.0 that addresses the lack of multi-tasking on the iPhone. Some users of Skype on the iPhone are pitching a fit on the Skype blog that this “little” feature is not included in Skype 1.1. If any program needs push ...

Google Chokes on Apple, Loses Its Voice

Others make the obvious official, such as AT&T’s statement that it does not like the idea of VoIP services such as Skype running over its 3G network. Apple’s statement emphasizes the good news about App Store approval–95% of apps get the okay within two weeks–and stresses that most rejections are because of bugs. ... and tricks, iPhone, App Store Is the cell coverage in your area not up to par? Whether you happen to have steel walls or live where there are no cell phone towers or trees cleverly disguised as cell phone towers, some of us must deal with the reality that, while we own arguably the most innovative gadget in recent years in the iPhone, we may not have had the best carrier to accompany it. One way to address this "bag of hurt" is through the Skype [iTunes link] app.
