The revenge of the $9.99 iPhone apps
VentureBeat —
When Apple’s App Store first launched back in July there were a wide range of prices for individual applications. While many were free, quite a few of the early games were $5 or $10. But as time has passed, there’s definitely been a trend of the paid apps to move towards $0.99, which seems to be a magic price point for high sales. But $0.99-an-app isn’t much of a way for most developers to make a living, and quite a few of them are now trending back towards $10.
I met with a group of popular iPhone app developers the other day. While most were game makers, there were other apps as well for doing things like restaurant reviews. Most were ...

Zagat To Go '09 Hits iPhone App Store [IPhone Apps]
Gizmodo —
... that launched this week. Zagat may sometimes offer too many suggestions, but I find it useful when I limit geography, or as a resource for validating my own foodie guesswork. This version shows photos of the restaurants, links to their sites, and even lets you make reservations with a click, where available. It's $10, a hefty premium over free alternatives OpenTable and Yelp, but I'm gonna go snatch it up anyway. If you've already tried it, hit us with a comment or two. [iTunes Store via IntoMobile]

AppScout —
Handmark has announced version 2.0 of Zagat to Go for the iPhone. Among other things, it includes a beta of the company's new Zagat Recommends engine. It then chooses several restaurants based on the answers. (Actually, that could be very useful.) The new app also includes one-touch GPS location, a redesigned UI, individual business listing maps, and new preview thumbnails. As before, the app works on the iPhone and iPod touch, and is currently availalble for $9.99 in Apple's App ...
