USA Today pretties up the news on the iPhone
VentureBeat —
USA Today, the national newspaper, has a long history of prettying-up the news with the use of color. Full color images, graphics and even sections have long been a staple of the paper, even when most of its peers were still in black and white. Now USA Today has brought that same flare to the iPhone with its new, free application.
While there are a few other very good news-based applications out there for the iPhone, namely the AP-powered Mobile News, USA Today’s app represents a move to style mixed with substance. When you launch the app, you’ll be greeted by a familiar Apple style that many other apps share. But while an ...

There are plenty of apps for the iPhone and iPod touch that help you keep on top of what is going on, but USA Today [app store link] has done a good job of translating the paper to the iPhone. When you install, you can ...
Hey Companies, Where Are Your iPhone Apps?
ReadWriteWeb —
... are still missing from the store. And while Jaguar's iPhone-only magazine launched in 2007 was clever, we want more. We want real apps.
Finally, why haven't local papers thought to use the iPhone platform to save their dying businesses? Most papers of any decent size already have developers on staff who work at maintaining the paper's web site - why not ask them to build an app instead? Some larger news organizations have already done this including AP News, USA Today, and the New York Times (Disclosure: RWW is syndicated by NYT). But ...

News apps! Get your News apps!
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: iPhone, App ReviewMSNBC recently added an iPhone app to the store, so we thought it was a good time to take a look at a few news apps. The gold standard for news on the iPhone is the USA Today app. Love them or hate them, the USA Today punchy writing style feels right at home on the iPhone. News can be received from a wide range of mobile sources, and it's the design of this app that makes it stand out. I would love to have the authors pack my suitcase the next time I travel, since they have found a way to cram an incredible amount of information into a very small package. Using persistent buttons on the ...
AutoPilot should be with you on your next trip
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: iPhone, iPod touch, App ReviewUSA Today has released AutoPilot for the iPhone and iPod touch, and it looks like a winner. This free app [iTunes link] lets you plan your trip, informs you of flight delays, gives you quick links to hotel, rental car and airline phone numbers, gets you the weather for your destination, and pulls up Flickr photos of where you are going. Whew!
There are lots of other travel apps, but I think AutoPilot has hit all the highlights of useful information that people will want in one place.
The app even reminds you to check in for your flight, and allows you to email your ...
USA Today releases...an iPhone travel app?
iPhone Atlas —
... The App Store is already replete with travel apps, so what's the big deal about USA Today AutoPilot?
For one thing, it's free--despite offering such advanced features as TripIt integration, real-time flight status, and quick access to travel blogs.
Then there's the branding: Last I checked, USA Today was a newspaper (with its own news app). So what's with the travel software?
"USA TODAY is synonymous with travel. Travelers love us and we love being everywhere they need us with innovative new products," said Matt Jones, vice president of mobile ...
