MacDailyNews —
... Keizer reports. "Apple, in effect, needs something completely different, Gottheil said." Keizer reports, "That's why he believes Apple will introduce netbooks next year that, like the company's iPhone, will exist in an Apple-controlled 'closed system' where software is delivered via the App Store, device restore is done from iTunes, backup is available through an optional online service, most likely MobileMe, and peripheral and add-on choices will be limited." Apple netbook announcement imminent, analyst predicts

... as he spelled out his take on Apple's next hardware move. "This is just by triangulation."
You don't say!
Nonetheless, I would love a Mac netbook, and hope it's true. On the other hand, MSI's Wind now runs OSX perfectly, so there's no reason to live without the utility of such a thing, even if it isn't made of Cupertino fairy dust.
So, here's a question: what could Apple add to the industry standard netbook formula to make it special?

Apple Will Release Netbooks Next Month. If “Will” Means “Might Conceivably.”
Technologizer —
applenetbooks In my more cynical moments, I’ve sometimes contended that analysts don’t know anything we technology journalists don’t–it’s just that they get paid (a lot) more for their opinions, and people take them more seriously. I was reminded of this stance when I read a Computerworld story today which reports that analyst Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research is saying that Apple will announce two netbooks at Macworld Expo in a little over two weeks. ...
Netbook popularity inspires Apple rumors
Obsessable News Feed —
Apple CEO Steve Jobs denied a couple of months ago that his company has any plans to release a cheap netbook, but the demand for the cheap-and-tiny laptops is high this season, so some folks are expecting one anyway. If you're in the mood for wild speculation to that end then today's your day!
An industry business analyst named Ezra Gottheil just sent out a prediction that Apple will introduce two netbook-like machines at its MacWorld conference next month, and that both of them will be stripped-down computers that would use Apple's online App Store. In a sense, they scould be larger, more robust version of the iPhone, but without the ...

Analyst Predicts Apple Netbooks for Macworld 2009
Wired: Gadget Lab —
An analyst is betting Apple will introduce a pair of netbooks in
January, even though Steve Jobs just two months ago said he wasn't
ready to.
"I don't have any inside information," said Ezra
Gottheil, a Technology Business Research analyst, in an interview with
Computerworld. "This is just by triangulation."
Gottheil backs
his speculation by noting the declining state of the economy as well as
the booming success of inexpensive netbooks. These factors combined
will force Apple to introduce a netbook as soon as January at Macworld
Expo, Gottheil says.
However, Gottheil's guess comes as nothing
new. Using the same ...
Analyst uses bad economy to predict Apple netbook at Macworld
VentureBeat —
Apple rumors work like an avalanche — all it takes is a single one (that is probably false), and soon we have massive big rumors rumbling at us. Today brings one of the biggest rumors of all: A Mac netbook.
But there are two major problems with this rumor. First, it’s made by an analyst — and analysts are almost always wrong in their predictions for Apple products. Second, it’s made by an analyst who claims to have no “inside information,” but rather is simply guessing based on the current economy.
Specifically, Ezra Gottheil, an analyst with Technology Business Research Inc., says in Computerworld that ...
Apple to announce new netbook product line at MacWorld?
SlashGear —
This morning Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research sent a note to clients, speculating that Apple will indeed launch a new product line at MacWorld in January 2009. Apple will announce a much-needed netbook to help Apple gain the upper hand and cover a fast growing market in which they have not yet tapped.
Gottheil goes on to say that this device will provide users with basic functions such as web access, word processing software, email and media playing all at a much more affordable price. Apple aims to give users a pick up and go experience with an easier learning curve that leaves less room for questions and problems. The new device ...
What To Make Of Apple's Exit From Macworld

... and iPod lines, and there’s little talk of a new iPhone out there yet. While TBR’s Ezra Gottheil attracted buzz this morning by predicting a low-priced netbook, even he says this was based only on his own tea leaf-reading. Personally, I don’t see it happening. Jobs only recently ...
A Consumer’s Guide to Apple Rumors
Technologizer —
There are many unique things about Apple, Inc. And one of the oddest of all is the degree to which straightforward reporting about the company’s activities has been drowned out in recent years by a surging sea of rumor, speculation, prediction, and–increasingly—wishful thinking. Everybody, it seems, wants to spoil the surprise of Apple product launches ...
Reports: Apple netbook to launch later this year
Macworld —
by Gregg Keizer , Computerworld Editor's Note: This story is excerpted from Computerworld . For more Mac coverage, visit Computerworld's Macintosh Knowledge Center . Rumors of an Apple netbook gained momentum Tuesday as the Dow Jones financial news service confirmed earlier reports that the company will launch a touch-screen-based computer, perhaps as early as the second half of this year. Sources told Dow Jones Newswires that Apple is working with Wintek, a manufacturer of small- and medium-sized displays, to make touch-screen displays in the 9.7- to 10-in. range, with Quanta Computer to assemble the netbooks. Both Wintek and Quanta are ...
